Bromeliad

This week’s Plant of the Week is a tropical houseplant – Bromeliad. Bromeliads are members of a plant family which contains over 3,000 species. The best known Bromeliad is the pineapple, introduced to Europe by Columbus some 500 years ago. All Bromeliads come from an area known as the Neotropical zone; this includes South and Central America, the Caribbean, Mexican lowlands and southern Florida. Despite their exotic origin, Bromeliads can be easily adapted to live quite happily indoors and are a great choice to help liven up the dark winter months. Available in a wide range of colours, sizes and textures they are beautiful foliage plants.
