Koelreuteria paniculata

This week’s Plant of the Week is Koelreuteria paniculata, or Golden Rain Tree. Koelreuteria is a small; moderately fast growing, deciduous tree which forms a round shaped crown. It can reach 30 feet in both height and spread. It is a valuable landscape tree, suitable for smaller areas, in part due to the fact that it is in full bloom in July when most other trees have finished flowering. It is very drought tolerant and grows quite happily in the Okanagan. Our picture is of the Golden Rain tree located next to City Hall in downtown Kelowna.
