Lavandula - Lavender

The Lavenders are at their best now which is why they are this week's Plant of the Week! There are many different varieties of lavender available, most of which are grown from seed. These seedlings have a built-in genetic variability. This means that each plant is a little different than the next; some plants can be large, some are compact, some are brilliantly coloured and some are more winter hardy than others. If you would like to have a uniform hedgerow of lavenders, you are best to select from varieties which are grown from cuttings. The Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm is a great place to visit to see lavenders growing in ideal conditions, and to discover some of the uses of lavender. For more information visit their website
